It’s very rare that I spend more than 10 minutes watching an individual (whether previously known to me or not) being interviewed on TV. Let alone really listen, and react actively. To a Republican pa ha?! I guess, I’ve never had the chance to listen to the Hon Antonin Scalia talk before. I found myself nodding in agreement, laughing in amusement, and shaking my head in derision, at various intervals. I’ve never come across such an interesting personality in a long time. At the end of the interview, he realized he was actually working for free!
(Kasi, at 65 he could’ve retired with full pay and yet he didn’t.)
Kakatuwang mama. I may not agree with his views all the time, but he’s such a charming personality you find yourself liking the man despite his ideologies. Admirably though, despite well past retirement age he hasn’t stopped working and has now come out with a new book (co-authored), “Making Your Case: The Art of Persuading Judges” – which should make for an interesting read for lawyers and non-lawyers alike.

I’ve been entertained by Scalia since the first decision I read in LS. He’s a very conservative judge and believes that the constitution must be interpreted as written…we all know the problem with that. Having him and Rehnquist on the bench, plus Ginsburg and O’Connor made for a very interesting combination of the “supremes”. Rehnquist moderated Scalia and served as the balancing element, indeed the very picture of a Chief Justice. I don’t have the same feeling yet with the current Supremes esp. with a new chief. Will have to catch this interview online, Scalia is animated too very passionate, did anyone say Sicilian?
